Pre-Kindergarten Classes
Classes for 4s prepare students for successful entry into Kindergarten the following year. The program fosters appropriate social skills for group learning while also focusing on early academic skills of literacy and handwriting, math, science, and social studies understandings.
The day begins and ends with a circle time. The curriculum topic is introduced at the first circle, which directs activities for learning in centers. Circle activities may include a story, discussion, hands-on project, or movement activity that is relevant to the topic. Then, children move to small groups at various learning centers to address areas such as math, language arts with early reading/writing, science/social studies, as well as dramatic, block, or fine motor play activities.
All centers are designed to promote learning through developmentally appropriate, hands-on activities. Problem-solving skills are part of this integrated curriculum, which also includes field trips and special holiday events. Children enjoy part of each day outside on the playground.
