Classes for 3s

Children who are three years old can attend classes either three half-days, three full-days, five-half-days, or five full-days a week.  Classes for 3s offer a loving, nurturing, and secure learning environment.  Program goals include promoting appropriate social skills and independence, enriching language, fostering thinking in early math and literacy areas, enhancing fine and gross motor skills, and cultivating a desire for learning and discovery.

Classes offer children numerous opportunities to experience and explore the world around them. Learning takes place through a hands-on approach, utilizing projects and activities that cater to the developmental level and interests of children.  Manipulatives are visually attractive, enticing children to touch and feel.  A feeling of belonging is generated as a child learns to play, share, take turns, and negotiate relationships with peers.

Classes begin with a period of free play, during which children are encouraged to participate in an art or cognitive learning project that is presented either one-on-one or in small groups.  Later, children gather for circle time during which the topic of the day is discussed and reinforced with a game, movement activity, or story.  Early literacy skills are introduced using Learning Without Tears materials.  After circle time, the children eat a nutritious snack, regroup for a second circle and story, and enjoy outside play on the playground.

As with all classes, the teaching staff focuses on a variety of topics, including seasonal, environmental, and holiday events. Teachers also develop themes as they spontaneously emerge from the children's play.  Curriculum themes are enriched through field trips, special programs, and guest speakers.
