Geneva Parents Association

Dear Geneva Parents,

On behalf of the Geneva Parents Association (GPA), we would like to welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year! Things this year are a bit different than years past and we are honoured to have you with us on the journey!

For anyone who might be new to Geneva Day School, first let me welcome you! I’d also like to tell you a bit about the Geneva Parents Association, also called the GPA. This is a volunteer group of parents and as a parent of a Geneva Day School student, YOU are a member of the GPA.

We welcome you and encourage you to get involved! The GPA meets (virtually for now) monthly to discuss important topics within the school, plan activities, to build a sense of community and offer support. The GPA also serves as a bridge between the school and Geneva families. One of our greatest joys is bringing parents together to form bonds that can often last a lifetime. I am honored to be leading our GPA board as President.

This year I am feeling particularly grateful. The first week of school was a tremendous success! I would like to thank the entire Geneva School Family, Mrs. Suzanne Funk, all of our teachers who have truly gone above and beyond to keep our children happy, healthy and engaged, the school staff, and our GPA treasurer, Sarah Nesbitt who provided the amazing “Thank You Teachers” sign.

This year more than ever, it truly takes a village and I am so grateful that this is ours. I also want to thank you, the parents. I know this year has quite a few new requirements, forms and policies and I thank you for your cooperation.

Events will look a bit different this year as we continue to observe health and safety recommendations. Volunteering as a Room Parent is an ideal way to coordinate activities on behalf of teachers and to bolster class communication. Though Room Parents are not present in the classroom for the moment, we look forward to this return once conditions permit. Serving on a Committee or volunteering at GPA Events remain, as always, open invitations. One of our main responsibilities is fundraising and we will keep you apprised of such opportunities.

More than anything this year, I truly want all of our parents to feel welcomed and comfortable. It wasn’t very long ago that I was a parent new to Geneva Day School and I remember how many questions can arise. Please never hesitate to contact me personally and also reach out to the GPA at g.

I  am happy to chat and answer any questions or concerns you might have. I also appreciate your support with any ideas you have for ways to keep this school year fun, social and connected in our newly digital world! Let’s make it a great year!

Nelidia Smith,  GPA President
