Since 1965, our mission has never varied: we are dedicated to the development of the whole child. Our skilled faculty, time-tested curriculum, warm family atmosphere - and even the innovative physical layout of the school itself - all contribute to the social physical, intellectual, and emotional development of our students.

Our philosophy is based on two convictions: that every child attending the Geneva Day School is an enormously capable learner, and every child learns in their own way and at their own pace. Our school's mission, consequently, is to provide an environment of love, security, acceptance, and success; a warm, caring place in which children feel supported and encouraged to explore new worlds of learning. Specifically we seek to:

.   Create a range of individual and group activities that are appropriate to the developmentof each child.
.   Help each child develop a positive self-image an a positive attitude toward school and learning.
.   Assist each child in developing good expressive and receptive language skills, sensory-perceptual skills, gross and fine motor skills, and other skills necessary for effective interpersonal relationships.
.   Aid each child in achieving a sense of independence, self-reliance, and individual responsibility.
.   Work in harmony with parents to help them understand their child's intellectual, emotional, social and physical development, and to provide supportive services if needed.

The School offers a wide range of attendance options for children of different age levels, including the following:

The Geneva Day School faculty has been carefully recruited, trained, and supported so as to provide your child with the most highly skilled, caring, and creative teachers possible. All of our teachers are college graduates who have met the standards of the Maryland State Department of Education for teaching in a non-public nursery school. Adult/child class ratios range from 1:6 to 1:8. The school also maintains a number of on-call specialists including a pediatric consultant, speech and language consultants for students with special needs in those areas, and an occupational therapist.

Mothers' Day Out

During the first week of school there will be no Mothers' Day Out program available.  However, as of the second week, children who are between the ages of three and five are eligible to remain at school from 11:30 a.m. until 2:45 p.m. on Friday afternoons.

Lunch Bunch

During the first week of school there will be no lunch program available.  As of the second week, all students are eligible to remain at school for lunch.  However, we strongly suggest that the two year old children do not stay until February.  For some of the children, watching their friends leave combined with the transition from their classroom to the lunch area can be traumatic to the young student.

Lunchtime is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.    The children may either bring their own bag lunch or order a hot lunch. The school will provide a half-pint of 2% low fat milk.  No refunds are made due to absences.  However, if school is cancelled for any reason you will receive credit.

Before- and After-School Care

We are fortunate to be able to offer Geneva families the opportunity to extend their child’s day on an as-needed basis.  However, there are limited openings for children before school (7:00 a.m. - 8:55 a.m.) and after school (2:45 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.).  Please try to make arrangements in advance for these programs.  The cost for this service is $10.00 per hour.  Note: Children must be 3 years old to take advantage of this program.

Enrichment Programs

At Geneva Day School, we offer a variety of exciting and educational enrichment classes for children 3 to 6 years old. Classes vary but typically included Music Movement, puppets, soccer, Ballet, Tennis, Spanish, Cooking, and Theatre Arts. Classes are offered Fall, Winter and Spring and run for about 12 weeks depending upon the instructor. All classes are taught at Geneva. For information about the Enrichment Classes being offered this session, click here:  Enrichment Programs.

Summer Camp

The Geneva Day School also offers a special summer camp program for children 2 - 5 years old. This program is open to currently enrolled students and to other interested children and families. Please go to Summer Camp for more information about this year's program.

The Geneva Day School has an Open Admissions Policy. We admit pupils from two to five years of age on a nondiscriminatory basis without regard to race, color, religion, or national origin. We strive for a reasonable balance of children in each age group, and a balance of boys and girls in each class.

Prior to applying, we strongly recommend that prospective parents schedule an appointment to tour our facilities during class time. Preference is given to children whose families are active members of Geneva Presbyterian Church and children of current staff, children who are presently enrolled, and siblings of current and former students. All other applications are processed in the order they are received after consideration is given to those with priority.

If you are interested in applying, we would be delighted to send you an application packet, just call us at (301) 340-7704 or click here and request an application via Email
